Her works represented contemporary Australian music at the World Music Days in Hong Kong (1988) and Zurich (1991).
She received a Young Australian Creative Fellowship (1996), with which she was able to pursue her investigations into Chinese opera and the Korean tradition of narrative singing. Works such as her Chinese ritual street opera 'Moon Spirit Feasting' (1999) for the Adelaide Festival and 'Machine for Contacting the dead' (2000) written for the Ensemble Intercontemporain flow from this period of investigation.
She was commisioned by the Los Angeles Philharmonic to write 'Ecstatic Architecture' for the inaugural season of the Walt Disney Concert Hall, 2004. Recent commissions have come from Lucerne Festival, Festival d'Automne Paris, Salzburg Festival, Donaueschingen and Bayerischer Rundfunk Orchestra as well as a residency with the Sydney Symphony. She is closely associated with the Australian ELISION Ensemble.
