David Moss began his musical education by studying the drums. This began at the Hartt School of Music from 1963 to 1968, then continued at the Wesleyan University from 1969 to 1970. Moss has been a central figure in the new improvisation art, of art rock and noise music since the mid-seventies. His solo performances combine live electronic sounds and his idiosyncratic percussion with supplementary artistic vocals.
In 1991 Moss was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship. He spent 1992 in Berlin thanks to a DAAD grant, and has remained there since.
David Moss has given more than 1000 solo concerts around the world (percussion, vocals) and more than 3000 concerts in various constellations, theatres and with various orchestras. Moss works as an opera singer, performer, improvisation artist and curator, and is one of the founders and artistic manager of the Institute for Living Voice, a workshop centre for exceptional singers and vocal musicians.
